July 5th 2010 and Twitter had a serious retweet sensation…apparently, “in Back to the Future, Doc sets the time clock in the Delorean to a day 25 years in the future. Today is that day.”
Except it wasn’t .
The rumour, from what I can tell, started with @gavmccaughey who got a LOT of RT love.
I love Back to the Future and thought I’d have a quick scour around to see if there were any other pertinent dates coming up soon. It soon transpired that Back to the Future Day was, um, wrong.
The day entered is October 26th and the only 5th July based trivia is that the American Premier was on this day.
A great example of people taking other people’s word at face value on Twitter. There were a few rather serious allegations about England footballers doing the rounds on Twitter last week which again were wind-ups…perhaps it’s time for a little more quality control on our re-tweets?
If you did get hoodwinked by the Back to the Future wind up, you’re in good company as Total Film also got done!
The Student Room called it out too…students FTW
